Manage Teaching Blocks

ThinkCentral provides a palette of teaching blocks, one for each major subject area and a custom block to define as needed. Teaching blocks are used to keep track of each subject’s lesson plans and resources for each day.

Users can add teaching blocks to their lesson planner in a couple ways.  

• Teaching blocks can be added one at a time by dragging and dropping a block from the teaching blocks menu to a specific day on the lesson planner
• Multiple teaching blocks can be added at once to a specific day by selecting one or more subjects from the teaching blocks menu and then selecting the day of the week to add to the block(s) to.

For each teaching block users can:

• Change the title of the teaching block
• Change the subject of the teaching block
• Move the entire teaching block along with its contents to another day within the lesson planner. This is done within the ‘Move block to’ section.
• Reschedule selected content to another day or move it to another teaching block within the lesson planner. This is done within the ‘Reschedule selected items’ section.
• Change the order of how the content displays within the teaching block. This is done within the ‘Reposition selected content’ section
• Click the ‘Add Custom Item’ button to add a custom created content item to the teaching block
• Click the ‘Clear Selected’ button to remove selected content items from the teaching block
• Click the ‘Delete Block’ to delete the teaching block and its contents from the lesson plan
• Click the ‘Save’ button to save any changes made to the teaching block and return to the lesson planner.
• Click the ‘Cancel’ button to discard any changes made to the teaching block and return to the lesson planner.

Apply Weekly Blocks

To reduce time creating each week’s lesson plan, users can assemble teaching blocks into a reusable template.  To add the default teaching blocks to a specific week in the lesson planner, click the ‘Apply Weekly Blocks’ button.  To set up your default teaching blocks click the ‘Teaching Blocks’ link located in the left navigation bar under ‘Settings’.

Compare Instruction Across Each Day of the Week

Users have the ability to review lesson plans for a whole week.  Users can select which week of the lesson planner to view by clicking on the calendar icon and selecting the week to display.

Manage Teaching Blocks

Click the ‘Add Teaching Block’ button to display the teaching blocks menu.  Users can add teaching blocks to their lesson planner in a couple ways.

• Teaching blocks can be added one at a time by dragging and dropping a block from the teaching blocks menu to a specific day on the lesson planner
• Multiple teaching blocks can be added at once to the displayed day by selecting one or more subjects from the teaching blocks menu and then selecting the ‘Add’ button.

The order of Teaching blocks can be rearranged within a day by dragging and dropping it to the desired location.

To edit properties of a teaching block click the paper & pencil icon  located within the teaching block. 

For each teaching block users can:

• Change the title of the teaching block
• Change the subject of the teaching block
• Move the entire teaching block along with its contents to another day within the lesson planner.  This is done within the ‘Move block to’ section.
• Reschedule selected content to another day or move it to another teaching block within the lesson planner.  This is done within the ‘Reschedule selected items’ section.

View Scheduled Lessons and Resources

Users have the ability to view all the lessons and resources they have scheduled on to their lesson planner by selecting the ‘+’ icon located within a teaching block.  The icon will change to ‘–‘, which indicates that the list has been expanded. To collapse the list, select the ‘–‘ icon.

View Assignments Due

When students have assignments due a pencil icon will display on the lesson planner for the day it is due.  Click the pencil icon to view the assignment.

View Lesson Plans for a Selected Day

Users have the ability to review the details of a lesson plan for a particular day by clicking on the calendar icon and selecting a day to display on the lesson planner.

Remove Teaching Blocks

Users can delete a teaching block and its contents from their lesson planner by dragging and dropping the specific teaching block into the trashcan icon.  The icon is labeled ‘Delete’ and is located on the top right.

Change the View of the Lesson Planner

Users have the ability to change the view of their lesson planner from a one day view to a two day view.  Two day view gives the user the ability to compare any two school days.

Add Custom Item

Click the ‘Add Custom Item’ button to add a custom created content item to a specific teaching block

• Select a teaching block
• Enter in the name of the content item
• Click the ‘Save’ button to add the new content item to the selected teaching block

Remove Items for a Particular Day

Click the ‘Clear Day’ button to delete all items from the lesson plan for that day.

Add Note

Click the ‘Add Note’ button to add a note to the selected day.  Only one note can be added per day.

• Type in a note
• Click the ‘Save’ button to add the new note to the selected day
  
  

• Click the ‘Delete’ button to delete the note.
• Click the ‘Save’ button to save changes made to the note.
• Click the ‘Cancel’ button to discard any changes made to the note.
